According to the Baillie House, Merritt’s visitor centre, tourist visits to the city were down significantly last year. In 2024, 16.3K people visited the location, an 18% drop from the 20K visitors recorded in 2023. The city also reports that it has lost nearly a third of its yearly tourists since 2022.

Westjet has cancelled service between Penticton and Edmonton, leaving only its daily service between Penticton and Calgary. The news comes after Air Canada pulled out of Penticton Airport in January citing pilot shortages. A reason for the cancellation was not provided.
