The Corporation of the City of North VancouverPlanner 2 - Public Space Design & ReviewTemporary Full-time The City of North Vancouver is the urban core of the beautiful North Shore and has a long-term vision to be ?The Healthiest Small City in the World?, with five key priorities to be a City for People, a Resilient City, a Vibrant City, a Connected City and a Prosperous City.The Engineering, Parks & Environment Department is looking for a temporary full time Planner 2 - Public Space Design & Review for approximately two (2) years. Reporting to the Manager of Public Realm Infrastructure, you will utilize your knowledge and skills in subject areas such as, urban design, landscape architecture, green infrastructure, transportation, land use planning, and accessible design to help achieve a high quality public realm experience through development. As the Planner 2, you will review development applications and communicate requirements for developer delivered public realm and infrastructure works for medium to large projects. You will also be a key working group member for some of the City?s large, complex development projects representing the interests of the review team. Specific duties and responsibilities include: Guide design of public space based on their site context, design guidelines, relevant policy, and general public amenity needs through the various phases of development e.g. enquiry, rezoning development permit. Review streetscape, public realm and public space designs, for specific outcomes in rezoning and development applications in a timely manner; Facilitate the multi-disciplinary (Eg. parks, planning, streetscape, transportation, utilities) review of projects through the approvals process. Work cross-departmentally in formulating, implementing and modifying land use plans and development application processes Provide input to legal agreements related to public space in the development process Liaise, advise, and negotiate with applicants Develop high quality presentation material, technical drawings, and construction detailsCandidates must have a university degree in an appropriate discipline (Urban Planning, Urban Design or Landscape Architecture), supplemented by professional experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge and recent experience in: public space design principles, methods and practices including construction methods and materials and practices, exercise sound and independent professional judgement to resolve conflicts and negotiate solutions, working knowledge of current development practices. Ability to manage multiple projects within tight timelines, demonstrable skills and proven ability to prepare visual materials (Adobe Creative suite, SketchUp, AutoCad (or similar)), experience preparing concepts, detail design and performing site inspections of public space. Minimum 3 years professional experience preferably within a municipal environment.For temporary full-time positions of 8 months or longer, a City employee who is successful on the posting will have the right to revert to their former position.
