According to Western Forest Products first-quarter earnings report, the company is working to offer more value-added products to its customers. The company announced that it has advanced permitting for two continuous dry kilns, one at its Duke Point sawmill in Nanaimo and one in Chemainus, B.C., with both expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
The Government of B.C. is providing $5M towards ten manufacturing projects on Vancouver Island. Ron Anderson & Sons Ltd., a Chemainus-based wood-product manufacturer, will receive $2M to diversify its products and create 35 full-time jobs. Aquila Cedar Products Ltd., a Parksville-based wood products manufacturer, is receiving $879K to buy new equipment and to retrofit its manufacturing site.

The Malahat First Nation is building a 100,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility for battery storage systems on the Saanich Inlet. The plant is expected to create 100 jobs at the facility and produce 10-gigawatt hours of storage capacity annually.
