Peoples, specifically on Leq?á:mel, Semá:th, Máthexwi, Kwantlen, Sq?éwlets, and Katzie traditional territories in the lower mainland of BC. Nestled on the southern coastal mountain slopes overlooking the lush Fraser River Valley, Mission is a rapidly growing and dynamic community of approximately 41,500 residents, 20 kilometers north of the US border and 70 kilometers east of Vancouver. Although Mission is part of a broader metropolitan area, it still maintains its distinct and welcoming small-town flavor.Job Description We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Forestry Technician 2 to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in planning, developing, implementing, and administering forestry programs, including silviculture, integrated resource management, recreation, and education initiatives. You will have the opportunity to work independently, while collaborating with the Forestry Director to ensure compliance with Tree Farm Licence requirements and other forestry operations.The incumbent will possess a comprehensive understanding of forestry operations, including the regulations, legislation, and safety practices governing forest resource management in British Columbia. They will be well-versed in timber cruising, silviculture surveys, environmental issues, and sustainable forestry practices, as well as having knowledge of forest hazards, fire-fighting techniques, and weather station data. The candidate should be skilled in data collection and able to manage multiple tasks independently while meeting deadlines. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for interacting with internal and external stakeholders, including addressing sensitive issues tactfully. Leadership abilities, including supervision of student employees, as well as proficiency in forestry-related software and mapping tools is crucial. The ability to prepare and present reports effectively, and operate vehicles in forestry operations, is also required.Qualifications The ideal candidate must have a Diploma in a forestry or related discipline recognized by the ABCFP, or recognized equivalent, along with successful completion of a supervisory course (minimum 36 hours) and recognized training in silviculture surveying. A minimum of 5 years experience in forest management operations, including 1 year of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience is required. You must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's Licence, registration as a registered forest technologist (RFT) with the Association of BC Forest Professionals (ABCFP), and an Occupational First Aid - Level I certification. Additional Information The January 1, 2025 hourly rate of pay for this CUPE position is $47.69 per hour plus a comprehensive benefits package including the Municipal Pension Plan.
