JOB SUMMARY: <p>Under direction of Principal, Indigenous Support Worker aids students on Individualized Educational Plans in school-based setting, with flexibility and passion for innovative instructional delivery, including outdoor education, that best meets the needs of each individual student. The Indigenous Support Worker works with students to support all aspects of their education and will act as a role model to students, and will practice empathy and understanding of our students' culture. The Indigenous Support Worker will work collaboratively with the Community Development Department towards the success of all of the students.<p>DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Assists with the development, implementation and monitoring of Individual Learning Plans for students with Individual Education Plans.<p> Facilitates student social, emotional and academic development.<p> Builds positive relations with student families to keep lines of communication from school to home open.<p> Supports and facilitates students participating in reading and math programs<p> Assists students in carrying out programs as set out by consultants (e.g., Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Speech and Language Pathologist and Psychologist)<p> Coaches and reinforces students in prepared exercises in academic and non-academic program components<p> Assists generally in the development and delivery of recreational, cultural, and community events<p> Co-leads student support groups (e.g., after-school club)<p> Models commitment to open, responsible action<p> Guides students in life skills training (e.g., communication, social skills, problem solving and conflict resolution, assertiveness training, self-management skills)<p> Organizes, prepares and duplicates a variety of classroom aids and materials<p> Uses computers and specialized equipment to provide support and instruction<p> Supervises students and maintains order and safety on school grounds, in classrooms, on fieldtrips and a variety of settings in the community<p> Exercises sound judgment in dealing with a variety of situations and considerable initiative, empathy and understanding of the many and varied conditions/issues faced by behaviorally challenging students<p> Models and demonstrates restitution' skills and methods for restorative practices<p> Assists students in making restitutions and learning anger management skills<p> Compiles information and materials for meetings with parents and relevant personnel and participates in same<p> Collects student learning and behavior data (records, reports, plans, including functional assessment data)<p> Documents and reports incidents in a timely manner<p> Provides intervention and safe support for students during and after emotional outbursts<p> Participates in all training and professional development <p> Performs other assigned duties that are within the area of knowledge and skills required by the job descriptionQUALIFICATIONS : Completion of Grade 12<p> Working knowledge of computer hardware and software<p> Must be physically able to perform the job<p> Able to participate in activities such as swimming, hiking, and biking<p> Must be willing to complete job-related training, including Responsible Adult certification and First Aid and CPR<p> Must undergo and successfully pass a Criminal Record Check vulnerable sector.DESIRAB LE QUALIFICATIONS : First aid and CPR <p> Responsible Adult certification<p> ECE Certificate<p> Two years' related experience or two years level of post-secondary education; or equivalent combination of training and experience<p> Specialized skills to assist students with anxiety disorders, self-esteem issues, sensory needs, depression
