Reports to: Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and Clinical Manager.
Employment Status: Part-Time or Full-Time Options
Job Summary:
The Communication Disorders Assistant (CDA) supports the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in providing care for clients. You will help deliver therapy sessions, prepare materials, and work directly with clients under the SLP's guidance. This role is ideal for educational assistants or similar professionals looking to expand their skills in communication support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Helping with Therapy Sessions:
* Use activities and exercises designed by the SLP to help children with speech, language, and communication skills.
* Practice communication strategies with clients during one-on-one or small group sessions.
* Keep therapy fun and engaging using games, books, and visuals.
Preparing Materials:
* Create and organize tools for therapy, such as flashcards or worksheets.
* Set up and clean therapy spaces before and after sessions.
Tracking Progress:
* Write notes about client progress during sessions.
* Share observations with the SLP to adjust therapy plans as needed.
Family Support:
* Teach families simple techniques to practice communication at home, as directed by the SLP.
* Answer basic questions from families while referring specific concerns to the SLP.
Teamwork and Learning:
* Attend team meetings to stay updated on best practices.
* Learn new skills from the SLP and team to help clients better.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
* Background in education, child development, or similar field (e.g., Educational Assistant, Early Childhood Educator).
* Experience working with children or individuals with special needs is an asset.
Skills:
* Enjoy working with children and making learning fun.
* Strong communication and listening skills.
* Comfortable with basic technology for keeping notes or using therapy tools.
* Organized and able to follow plans made by the SLP.
* Ability to work independently at home.
Requirements:
* A recent Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
* Valid driver?s license and access to transportation (for home/community visits).
Working Conditions:
* Work takes place in the schools, in the community, or in homes.
* You may travel locally for sessions.
