For more information about our school district, visit?https://www.vsb.bc.ca/.<p> <p>Learning Assistance Teacher Grade 10-12 (1.0 FTE) <p>The Learning Assistance Program at Hamber is designed for students Grade 10 through 12 with mild to moderate<p>intellectual disabilities. Students typically exhibit academic, language and social delays. The program emphasizes<p>functional academics, community awareness, health and physical fitness, consumer education, vocational<p>preparation and work experience. Students are integrated into electives whenever possible. The successful candidate will have a Diploma in Special Education or equivalent course work and/or experience in<p>the following: <p> ? Conducting a variety of assessments including classroom observation, curriculum based, informal, and<p>formal. <p> ?Developing, implementing and evaluating individualized education plans (IEPs).<p>? Developing, implementing and evaluating individualized and class-wide positive behaviour support plans.<p><p>? Providing direct instruction to students using a variety of teaching and management strategies.<p><p>? Liaising with parents, school, and district staff.<p>Life Skills Teacher (1.0 FTE) <p>Life Skills is a small supportive class for student with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities and/or autism. Students may exhibit challenging behaviours and complex learning needs. Goals of the program include developing communication skills or communication systems for non-verbal students, providing life skills training (e.g. self-help, personal care), functional academic skills development, improving behavioural and social skills, working within community, recreation facilities to promote physical fitness, providing work experience where appropriate and providing transition to post-secondary options. In addition to the teacher, the program is staffed with SSAs (the number of support staff is dependent on the students? needs). The successful candidate will have a Diploma in Special Education or equivalent course work in addition to experience in the following:<p>? Working with students with developmental disabilities and/or autism.<p>? Developing, implementing and evaluating individualized education plans
