THE LINDSAY AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY (LAS) was formed in 1854 for the purpose of encouraging an awareness of agriculture and promoting improvements in the quality of life of persons living in the local agricultural community and beyond. Throughout the society’s 170 years, it has remained loyal to its mandate, consistently promoting the agricultural community and forging ties through the region with service clubs, youth groups, and other organizations. The LAS’s signature event is the annual Lindsay Exhibition(LEX), the fourth-largest agricultural fair in Ontario. The new LAS facilities have hosted numerous other shows and events including prestigious livestock shows, agricultural specialty shows, home and craft shows, trade shows and consumer shows; all of which add strength to the fabric of the community and agricultural life.Position SummaryUnder the direction of the LAS Board of Directors, the General Manager is responsible for executing the strategic vision for the Lindsay Agricultural Society as set by the Board. Operational responsibilities include the daily planning, management and leadership of the Lindsay Agricultural Society, including revenue, expenses, personnel, rentals, the LEX, the physical plant, and all related financial reporting and various other duties assigned by the President. ResponsibilitiesParticipate in the strategic planning process of the LAS Board of Directors. Execute the resulting strategic plan.Recruit, manage and maintain a qualified, friendly, and professional staff using LAS personnel procedures for hiring, training, scheduling, development, and management of all employees to comply with the payroll budget, business needs, and all employment legislation.Manage workflow and assignments to all staff positions.Oversee the delivery of quality guest service, by engaging and demonstrating a positive and friendly interaction with guests, volunteers and team members throughout all areas of the LEX ground.Work with the LEX planning committees to coordinate and execute the annual agricultural fair.Prepare, manage and report on an annual budget (expense and capital), cashflow forecast, and business plan. This includes a separate budget for the annual agricultural fair (LEX).Create and manage a capital replacement budget.Manage the monthly board reporting and meeting cycle to ensure the board is adequately informed of relevant matters and has the appropriate information to make decisions in a timely manner.Ensure the physical property, buildings, and equipment are properly maintained to legislated building codes and safety standards.Manage any LAS driven events.The GM will be required to attend Executive meetings, board meetings and some committee meetings in the evenings along with extra hours prior to and during the fair and other LAS events.Design, expand and manage facility rental opportunities that the community is able to access and increase the profile of the LAS, while enabling LAS to maximize revenue generation opportunities. Ensure all contracts are completed and in place.Monitor the compliance of staff and guests to all facility policies, programs and procedures, and provincially legislated Occupational Health and Safety requirements.Seek applicable grant opportunities, write proposals, and remain in compliance with the terms and conditions of grants to ensure the LAS receives all monies awarded.Working with the staff Volunteer coordinator, the GM is responsible for maintaining  a mutual respect and appreciation for all volunteers....providing a safe environment in which to do their work.  Social media,|Website Design and Management and Marketing and Advertising for events.Other duties as assigned. Job QualificationsDegree/Diploma in Business, Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum 3 years in progressively responsible management positions.P
