School District No. 73 (Kamloops-Thompson) is currently accepting applications for the position of Aboriginal Education Worker for Brocklehurst Secondary. This is a temporary position, ending on or before<p>June 30, 2025. At the end of the term the incumbent may exercise their<p>seniority to post on positions that are available, or may choose to be<p>placed on the AEW Relief Roster. <p><p>Aboriginal Education Workers provide assistance and support to either individual or groups of Aboriginal students. The successful applicants will be of Aboriginal Ancestry and have a thorough knowledge of applicable Aboriginal culture, tradition and issues, both historical and contemporary.<p>This is a permanent position which works 6.25 hours per day, 10 months of the year. Following successful completion of the probationary period, the incumbent will be eligible for Extended Health Benefits, as well as Group Life and LTD Insurance. School District No. 73 belongs to the Municipal Pension Plan.<p>Under the direct supervision of the Principal(s) and with general direction from classroom teacher(s), the Aboriginal Education Worker demonstrates initiative and flexibility in carrying out a variety of related tasks while providing support and input into program implementation as part of a school based team to enhance the educational success of Aboriginal students.<p>TYPICAL DUTIES: <p><p> Assists with all aspects of daily classroom activities as required, including direct involvement with either individual or small groups of students either at the elementary or secondary level, as it pertains to Aboriginal Education Council's Strategic Plan.<p> In consultation with the local community, First Nations communities, teachers, counsellors, administrators and parents, participates in planning, organizing, promoting cultural pride, delivery of educational experiences in Aboriginal culture and heritage.<p> Provides assistance and support for the implementation of programs aimed at developing educational, social, emotional and behavioural needs of Aboriginal students.<p> Assists with the identification process and the collection of data for the school, the District, the bands, and provincial and federal ministries.<p> Observes, monitors, records and provides feedback in areas identified as specific program goals.<p> Tracks students' progress, performance, attendance, academic achievement levels and reports on same as required to the appropriate teachers, counsellors, parents and bands.<p> Arranges for parental consent for the passing of information to bands as required.<p> Consults with counsellors concerning "at risk" students and assists with career preparation guidance and career counselling.<p> Makes referrals to community support services, agencies and District alternative programs as required.<p> Supervision of students.<p> May participate in field trips and class activities/outings.<p> Assists with implementation/reinforcement of behavioural expectations and appropriate conduct and provides positive behaviour redirection.<p> Participates in home visits as determined by the Principal.<p> Participates in school based team and other consultative meetings as required.<p> Promotes cross cultural awareness and acts as a positive role model and advocate for Aboriginal students in various areas including but not limited to career/life planning and transition and boys and girls groups.<p> Other assigned job-related duties.<p><p>ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: <p><p><p> Ability to communicate and maintain effective working relationships with the public, students, teachers, Principals and other employees of the District plus various community/social agencies.<p> Ability to demonstrate initiative and flexibility with general supervision by identifying and performing tasks within the program plan.<p> Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-discipline team.<p> Ability to organize and maintain record keeping systems.<p> Knowledge and unders
