School of Music(Permanent)DUTIESReporting to the Dean, the Senior Administrative Officer (SAO) provides administrative leadership to the School of Music including strategic planning, management, and optimal resource allocation in support of the unit's academic mission. As a member of the School's leadership team, the SAO manages all administrative, operational, and financial matters critical to the School and has sole accountability for the management and leadership of academic support services within the School. Duties include overseeing financial management and budget allocation; managing academic recruitment and appointment processes; recruiting, supervising, and managing staff resources, including performance evaluation, conflict resolution, business processes, and change management; preparing submissions to the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic) including recommendations on staffing and space requirements; representing the Dean, School of Music, on various committees and working groups; facilitating the implementation of strategic objectives; overseeing the School's facilities and equipment; overseeing the School's business operations and outreach activities; developing and monitoring the School's administrative policies and ensuring compliance with University policies and procedures; establishing efficient and effective practices/procedures to support academic and outreach functions; reviewing, advising on, and managing a range of special projects and liaising with the professional community on related activities; establishing and maintaining relationships with University administrative departments, including related Directors, administrative colleagues in other academic units, the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic), as well as external organizations; developing and maintaining relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the external community that advance discussion, mediation, consensus building, and decision making regarding the School's operational requirements; and performing other related duties as required.QUALIFICATIONSExperience (5-7 years) in a progressively responsible leadership position responsible for academic administration; completion of a graduate level degree, preferably in Business or other related area; or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. Advanced skills in analyzing and interpreting information and situations, conflict resolution, mediation, and problem solving are required. Demonstrated strength in strategic planning and change management; organizational, interpersonal, communication, and budgeting skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to build relationships with diverse groups and the public. Management skills, along with experience in human resources policy and procedure application; the ability to negotiate administrative and financial matters; and familiarity with the latest IT technology/solutions are required. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive knowledge of all aspects of the School of Music, including overall goals and mission, and their fit with the strategic plan of the University and a strong working knowledge of the Newfoundland and Labrador music community.SALARY $80,801 - $103,465 per annum (Management and Professional) An upscale hiring step applies to this position (step 13)CLOSING DATE November 16, 2024COMPETITION NO.
