Discover your role as a key urban forestry contributor in this permanent full-time position, working 35 hours a week. Lead urban challenges, enforce bylaw compliance, and take on diverse, impactful tasks to nurture our city's greenery.
*Key responsabilities :*
* Collaboration and Data Management: Work closely with the Geomatics and Information System Division to update the computerized inventory of public trees in the territory. Prepare reports, collect technical information, and maintain a comprehensive database.
* Tree Health Assessment: Evaluate the health and environmental conditions of trees and plants. Conduct on-site inspections, diagnose issues, and recommend appropriate corrective actions or treatments based on risk factors.
* Community Engagement: Act as a liaison between various city departments and the public. Manage the city's website, social media, and intranet to keep citizens informed and engaged in tree-related activities.
* Disease Prevention: Contribute to the development of strategies for screening and preventing tree diseases, ensuring the preservation of our urban forests. Establish an annual treatment program.
* Citizen Support: Respond to inquiries and requests from citizens, meeting with them to provide information and clarify issues, offering potential solutions.
* Research and Problem Solving: Conduct research to obtain necessary information for problem resolution and responses to various requests from different stakeholders.
* Ownership Determination: Identify tree and plant ownership through land survey reports, field measurements, and other sources of information, facilitating work and regulatory compliance.
* Contract Oversight: Monitor contracts related to tree pruning and treatment, ensuring work is performed in accordance with the established standards.
* Committee Participation: Participate in Public Works Department committees when necessary to share information and contribute to decisions relevant to your field of expertise.
* Reporting and Analysis: Generate reports, statistics, and other documentation as required by management to provide insights and track activities.
* Planning and Documentation: Develop development plans, create technical specifications, draft sketches, and prepare tables and reports pertaining to your field.
* Damage Assessment: Assist in preparing files for claims related to damage caused by trees. Assess the damage, determine replacement or removal costs, and support the resolution process.
* Reforestation Program: Contribute to the development of a tree planting and reforestation program, enhancing the greenery in the community.
* Regulatory Compliance: Prepare requests for certificates of authorization to relevant organizations, ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
* Grant Applications: Collaborate on grant applications related to your area of expertise, securing funding for tree-related initiatives.
* Training and Mentorship: Assist and instruct team members in various techniques related to tree care, fostering skill development.
* Environmental Collaboration: Work closely with the Sustainable Environment division on specific projects and initiatives.
* Summer Student Supervision: Provide leadership by supervising summer students, delivering training, evaluating their work, and contributing to their professional development.
*Skills, Knowledge and Expertise*
* Hold a college diploma (DEC) in arboriculture, landscaping, agronomy or
* other relevant techniques
* Two (2) to three (3) years of experience relevant to the position
* Good knowledge of the office and/or field geomatics tools of Esri's ArcGis platform;Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite;
* Hold a valid and recognized driver's license required for the job;
* Hold a safety card for construction sites;
* Knowledge of horticulture (asset);
