Medicine Hat Public School Division <p>Occupational Health & Safety Officer <p>Full-time, year round , 12-month position <p>Start Date December 2024 <p>Medicine Hat Public School Division requires the services of a skilled individual to fill the position of Occupational Health and Safety Officer. This position will involve working at a high level in a collaborative environment to maintain and develop strategies and programs that will continue to improve the health and safety for approximately 1000 employees and 7000 students at 20 sites. <p><p> Our Vision : To learn. To build a better world.<p> Mission Statement : Our mission is to provide an inclusive, progressive learning community through trust, courage and collaboration.<p> Division Motto : Where kids count!<p><p>Responsibilities :<p><p> Evaluate the workplace environment and assist with developing safety-management practices that identify and define the safety responsibilities of all employees.<p> Investigate incidents and take preventative action to rectify future hazards. <p> Manage WCB claims; ensuring timely completion of accident/injury reporting.<p> Maintain a highly visible presence within our Division.<p> Assist in the development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures.<p> Coordinate the accident and incident reporting system used by the Division.<p> Experience with implementation and maintenance of an emergency response plan.<p> Work closely with management to provide leadership and to develop and maintain a strong, positive safety culture. <p> Represent the School Division in a professional and ethical manner to maintain effective relationships with internal and external key stakeholders. <p> Implement and maintain changes as required by government legislation.<p> Maintain Occupational Health and Safety manuals and policies.<p> Lead and maintain safety training, site inspections, hazard assessments and standard operating procedures.<p> Provide backup for disability management when required.<p> Other administrative tasks as required.<p><p>Knowledge and Skills :<p><p> Extensive understanding and knowledge of provincial and federal health and safety legislation and regulations.<p> Excellent knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment.<p> Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel is required.<p> Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability.<p> Previous experience with Hour Zero would be an asset.<p> Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.<p> Detail and results oriented with the ability to multi-task, and work with deadlines.<p> Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment.<p> Ability to always maintain confidentiality and employee privacy during sensitive situations.<p><p>Requirements <p><p> Degree or Diploma in a field related to occupational health and safety.<p> Working towards or has safety certification (or equivalent experience) such as the Certified Health and Safety Consultant (CHSC) designation, or Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).<p> Must provide own transportation.<p> Minimum of 2-3 years of related work experience.<p><p>Why Join Medicine Hat Public School Division? <p>Medicine Hat Public School Division recognizes the value in providing a supportive and inclusive work environment that values employee wellness and continuous learning.
