You will work closely with and provide strategic legal advice and guidance to executive, management and employees across the company on a wide range of matters. You will provide legal services of an advanced nature, including providing legal advice and guidance on preparation and negotiation of agreements, major commercial matters, legislative compliance and other related matters including the management of external legal counsel when required.QUALIFICATIONS:You must have strong communications and leadership skills, and have an excellent ability to draft clear and comprehensive opinions and contracts. You must also be able to translate complex business and technical issues into clear and actionable advice. You must exercise considerable judgement in areas of assigned responsibility and exercise tact, diplomacy and persuasion in the presentation of legal opinions, recommendations and other legal services. You must be able to work independently but also function effectively as part of a team.You will have graduated from a recognized university with a JD or LL.B. and must be, or be eligible to be, a member of the Law Society of Newfoundland and Labrador. You will have a minimum of ten (10) years' experience as corporate counsel or equivalent experience providing complex legal advice and services. Experience in the utility industry, and in the areas of energy law and Indigenous law, as well as completion of the Certified In-House Counsel Canada designation (CIC.C) would all be considered valuable assets.CLOSING DATE: November 8, 2024Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro manages our province's electricity system.
