Newcomer Career/Employment Counsellor <p>Term to June 27.2025 <p>5.5 Hours per day <p>$24.53 per hour <p>The Newcomer Career/Employment Counsellor is a part of the MALTI: Manitoba Adult Language Training Initiative through the Province of Manitobas Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources Department. The position will involve working with MALTI designated students to prepare them for the workforce, post-secondary education, training opportunities and provide career counselling.Duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to: Provide students under the MALTI program with one-to-one job skills/career counseling which will include creating a plan through career counselling software across multiple sites (myBlueprint). Support students in building their resume, creating a cover letter, filling out job applications and other governmental and organizational documents required for employment. <p> Connect students to local career fairs, post-secondary tours, and other training opportunities.<p> Support students in completing applications for post-secondary education and scholarships. <p> Proactively contact employers to seek and create opportunities for students with those employers, and then support interested students in the application process to these positions.<p> Curate resources that are available to students that provide information about job opportunities, career pathways and post-secondary opportunities.<p> Arrange for presentations from potential employers and post-secondary institutions that expose students to available opportunities and skill requirements.<p> Coordinate short-term (2 day) training skill sessions (mini-credentials) to offer workshops to prepare students for employment (e.g. First Aid/CPR; MPI Driver Training; Food handlers etc.).<p> Awareness and ability to connect students to newcomer service provider organizations (SPOs) offering employment services and liaison with the SPOs to hold presentations at the school.<p> Attend liaison meetings with newcomer SPOs to maintain and make new connections to opportunities for students.<p> Work with teachers to deliver career development.<p> Work collaboratively with the Student Support Team and our Intercultural Support Worker to deliver career related programming to students.<p> Dedication to anti-racism, equity, and diversity.<p> Proven commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.<p> Proven ability to build collaborated cultures founded on integrity and collective purpose.<p> Other duties as assigned.Qualifications: <p> Post-secondary education and experience in the Social Sciences field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. <p> Knowledge of and/or experience working with newcomer service provider organizations. <p> Minimum of two years of experience in employment/career counselling. <p> Experience facilitating presentations and workshops to client groups. <p> Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point. <p> Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with a diverse array of community partners. <p> Oral and written communication and presentation. <p> Strong organization and time-management skills. <p> Attention to detail and commitment to follow-up. <p> Ability to work independently as well as in teams. <p> Creative problem-solving and critical thinking.How to apply: <p>Click the button "Apply Online" and log into your account.
