School District No. 57 (Prince George) <p>invites you to apply for: <p>Youth Care Worker <p> <p>TITLE: YOUTH CARE WORKER <p>POSITION NOTES: 16.5 hours per week <p> <p>DEPARTMENT: SCHOOLS <p>REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL OR DESIGNATE SUMMARY: <p>With direction from the teacher or administrator, the YCW assists in developing and implementing individual education plans for students with emotional, social, or behavioral difficulties.<p>DUTIES: <p><p> Maintains liaison with teachers, counsellors, administrators, students and their families.<p> Conducts home and community visits.<p> Assists in the development and implementation of specific academic/social interventions with students who present unique and challenging behaviors.<p> Provides guidance to students and their families.<p> Organizes and participates in field trips and other special events.<p> Provides transportation as needed.<p> Assists the teacher in evaluating and reporting on individual students.<p> Regularly participates in screening and review meetings as required.<p> Regularly communicates with parents and community agencies under the direction of the teacher/administrator.<p> Assumes additional responsibilities, which are site-specific.<p><p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY, SKILLS (YOUTH CARE WORKER) <p><p> Grade 12 education.<p> Two year diploma/certificate (60 credits) from any accredited college or university in areas related to child or youth care and counselling.<p> Two years of experience (which includes one year experience in the public education system) with exceptional children or youth in the appropriate age range.<p> Valid British Columbia driver's license.<p> Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.<p> Ability to perform individually and as part of a multi-disciplinary team<p> Ability to follow directions with regard to individualized education plans and the dispensing of medication.<p> Ability to deal with very challenging behaviors on a daily basis within an emotionally and physically demanding environment.<p> Requires mature judgement in ensuring that the YCW provides services only in those areas in which he/she possesses the required skills.<p> Ability to maintain confidentiality.<p> Ability to operate or learn to operate school equipment (e.g. recorders, computers, etc.)<p> Basic computer knowledge skills required.<p><p>TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED <p>Common classroom and playground materials/equipment (e.g. art supplies, audio-visual equipment, sports equipment, etc.)<p>PHYSICAL ABILITIES <p><p> Sufficient vision and hearing to perform assigned duties independently.<p> Ability to lift, transfer and assist students as required.<p> Manual dexterity.<p><p> <p> <p>HOW TO APPLY: <p>Click here for step-by-step instructions to create your ECE, EA and Support Staff Make A Future profile, complete your portfolio and apply to postings. <p>If you encounter a problem with the application process, please contact the help line at Make a Future or alternately, Helen Schlick, Human Resources Advisor at hschlick@sd57.bc.ca or call 250-561-6800 ext. 230.<p> <p>**Only candidates that are shortlisted for an interview will be contacted** <p>July 2019
