The *Gym Attendant *is responsible for supporting the students during gym hours by monitoring and guiding on best workout practices and techniques. The candidate will provide recreational support for students through a variety of residential programs. These programs are intended to create an engaging and enjoyable environment for the students. *Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * * Prioritize safety, and coach students on safe use of gym equipment. Including reinforcement of gym policies to prevent accidents or injuries * Instruct and monitor students throughout recreational activities and programs * Assist in the planning and development of new residence activities and programming * Stay up to date on industry trend and best practices in fitness training * Develop professional relationships with students to promote social, emotional, and physical well-being * Counsel students on active lifestyles and physical activities, including goal setting sessions * Liaise with the Residence Lie Advisors, Residence Life Supervisors and Residence Life Managers about student issues. * Complete file maintenance and other administrative tasks as assigned * Attend training/meetings and nonresidential activities as assigned * Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies or incidents * Conduct regular inspections and communicate forth any concerns, or maintenance tasks * Maintain a clean and organized gym environment * Other duties as prescribed by the General Manager or their designate, which may be amended *Qualifications and Requirements: * * Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field (Recreation and Leisure Services, Child & Youth Worker, etc.) is an asset * CanFitPro, NCSA, NASM, or ACE certifications are an asset * First Aid and CPR certification is required * Lifeguard certification is an asset * Experience in facilitation, directing or coaching recreation activities is an asset * Excellent written and verbal communication * Engaging positive attitude with students and fellow staff * Ability to handle escalated, high-pressure situations and encounters * Experience working with youth, preferably in a multicultural environment * Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite * Capable of lifting 22.68kgs/50lbs to shoulder height as required * Capable of frequent walking, standing and/or sitting for up to 4 hours at a time. *Hours of Work:* * Hours will be part-time. * Must be available during evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays. * Must have the flexibility to work at all residence locations.
