We are looking for a skilled *Industrial Designer/CNC Programmer* to join our growing team at R&W Metal Fabricating and Design Inc., a leader in steel returnable packaging and steel racks for the automotive industry.
This is an exciting opportunity to see your designs come to life, working closely with our production team to bring concepts from drawings to final products. You?ll be responsible for design, CNC programming, and collaborating with both customers and the shop floor to ensure efficient, high-quality production.
Please note this is an *on-site position* with no work-from-home opportunity.
*Key Responsibilities:*
* *Design and Development*: Create and modify designs using SolidWorks to meet customer specifications while optimizing for material and labor cost efficiency.
* *CNC Programming*: Develop accurate programs for 2D and 3D laser equipment using machine-specific software, ensuring precise nesting and material optimization.
* *Prototype Development*: Coordinate the manufacturing of prototypes and work with production personnel to refine designs into final products.
* *Customer Interaction*: Communicate with customers to define requirements, document approvals, and manage design changes.
* *Bill of Materials*: Assist in developing and maintaining accurate bills of materials (BOM) for all designs.
* *Drawing Maintenance*: Ensure all standard manufacturing drawings are up to date with the latest design revisions, following our quality management system.
* *Process Optimization*: Continuously seek improvements in material use, processing time, and functional design to increase production efficiency.
* *Collaboration*: Work closely with the shop prototype department and other team members to implement design changes and ensure a smooth production process.
* *Other Duties*: Take on additional responsibilities as required to support design and production operations.
*Candidate Profile:*
Education/Experience:
* Technologist or Engineering degree (Mechanical) or relevant College Diploma
* Minimum 1 year experience in similar industry.
* Minimum 1 year experience in a production fabrication environment, with exposure to light-gauge steel manufacturing preferred.
Software Proficiency:
* Proficient in SolidWorks and Microsoft Office 365
* Experience with 2D/3D laser programming software such as Trumpf TruTops or Mazak FX Tube is an asset.
Industry Knowledge:
* Familiarity with automotive industry standards and steel packaging or dunnage design is an advantage.
* Understanding of ISO design and development requirements.
Skills:
* Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
* Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with a focus on quality and precision.
* Comfortable working on the shop floor and interacting with production staff.
