Job details
Education: Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine or optometry. Work setting: Chronic or long-term care facilities/centres. Urban area. Mental health institution, facility or clinic. Private practice. Clinic. Tasks: Collect medical information from patients, family members, or other medical professionals. Examine patients' health condition to identify diseases and injuries . Order laboratory tests, X-rays and other diagnostic procedures to determine the most appropriate medical treatment . Consult with other medical practitioners to evaluate patients' physical and mental health. Prescribe and administer medications and treatments. Inoculate and vaccinate patients to prevent and treat diseases. Participate in health care policy and planning. Deliver babies and provide pre-natal and post-natal care. Advise patients on health care. Report births, deaths, contagious and other diseases to government authorities. Be the patient advocate. Co-ordinate or manage primary patient care. Provide acute care management. Provide counselling and support to patients and their families on a wide range of health and lifestyle issues. Supervise home care services. Supervision: Staff in various areas of responsibility. Committees. Working groups. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : College of Family Physicians Certification (CCFP). Licentiate of the Medical Council of Canada (LMCC). Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities. Security and safety: Criminal record check. Child Abuse Registry check. Vulnerable sector check. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Own tools/equipment: Computer. Personal suitability: Accurate. Client focus.
