Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Tasks: Measure and lay out reference points for installation. Prepare tenders and quotations. Assemble and install refrigeration or air conditioning components. Coach and instruct apprentices. Measure, cut and connect piping using welding and brazing equipment. Start up system and test for leaks using testing devices. Perform maintenance such as, recharging system with refrigerant, checking and testing regulators or calibrating system. Interpret gas codes. Handle, recover and store refrigerants. Repair and replace parts and components for entire refrigeration, air conditioning, ventilation or heat pump systems. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Trade Certification. Control systems: Computerized monitoring. Electrical devices. Electronic and solid state. Pneumatic devices. On-board diagnostics. Direct digital control system. Programmable logic controller (PLC). Air conditioning and refrigeration systems: Rooftop (self-contained). Air motioning and circulation. Built up (split system). Humidification and de-humidification system. Ventilation. Cooling tower. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Physically demanding. Handling heavy loads. Standing for extended periods.
