Job details
Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Work site environment: Confined spaces. In/on water. Noisy. Outdoors. Work setting: Room and board provided. Staff accommodation provided. Various locations. Marine. Tasks: Assist in performing routine maintenance work and repair to ship's engine, machinery and auxiliary equipment. Clean, chip and paint deck surfaces. Handle mooring lines, and splice and repair ropes, wire cables and cordage. Lubricate moving parts of engine, machinery and auxiliary equipment. Monitor engine, machinery and equipment indicators. Operate and maintain off-loading liquid pumps and valves. Operate, maintain and repair deck equipment. Stand watch and steer ship or self-propelled vessel under the direction of an officer. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Transport Canada Bridge Watchman Certificate. Marine Emergency Duties Certificate. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Ability to distinguish between colours. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Combination of sitting, standing, walking. Handling heavy loads. Physically demanding. Standing for extended periods. Weight handling: Up to 45 kg (100 lbs). Own tools/equipment: Gloves. Steel-toed safety boots. Personal suitability: Flexibility. Judgement. Team player.
