Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, this Exempt position will be responsible for ensuring that the City is compliant with the Workers Compensation Act, the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and all other relevant legislation and organizational policies and procedures, including the Collective Agreement. The Health and Safety Advisor will be responsible for confidential and complex investigations, which requires the ideal candidate to be detail-orientated, organized and able to work in a fast-paced environment that involves multiple competing priorities. This position will be on the work site, working Monday - Friday from 8:30am - 4:30pm. The assignment is anticipated to be for approximately six (6) to nine (9) months.Some of the key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:Coordinates accident and incident investigations, including ensuring appropriate documentation is complete, submitted and action items are implemented in a timely manner Provides advice, guidance and resources on safety related matters to maintain compliance with WorkSafeBC regulations and related legislation Coordinates and maintains the City?s Health and Safety Programs, including the oversight of the hazard prevention program, risk assessments and mitigation and training and education Develops health and safety policies, safe work procedures and guidelines in consultation with management Facilitates and supports the implementation of coordinated health and safety education and training, including in-house training or developing in conjunction with a third-party consultant Develops and coordinates the contractor safety management program Acts as a resource expert to the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC) on the interpretation and application of safety standards and regulations Assists in the identification of hazards and the implementation of corrective actions to prevent future incident occurrences Assists with the planning and coordination of City-wide emergency drills and exercisesThe successful candidate for this position will have:A post-secondary degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, or related field A minimum of three (3) years? recent related experience in a safety practitioner?s role in a complex, unionized setting Considerable knowledge of labour relations related to OH&S issues Verbal and written communication skills Exceptional organizational and time management skills Possession of or working toward Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation is desirable BC Class 5 Driver?s Licence Intermediate skills related to the Microsoft Office Suite, Human Resources Information Systems, WorkSafeBC Online Portal, and other computer-based programsWhy should you consider working for us?An annual salary ranging between $90,822 - $106,850 annually A competitive benefit package A strong learning culture - we want our people to grow and succeed A challenging and rewarding career in the service of our community Our organization is the ideal size for you to make a difference and have an impact A diverse, inclusive and supportive workplace A fun, vibrant and supportive teamQualified individuals are encouraged to apply online by October 3, 2024, at www.portcoquitlam.ca
