Job details
Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Interior design. Work setting: Work in employer's/client's home. Various locations. On-site customer service. Tasks: Estimate cost of projects. Prepare detailed specifications. Work in a multidisciplinary environment. Create interior spaces that reflect clients' needs and tastes. Read blueprint, schemas and drawings. Advise on selection of colours, finishes and materials, lighting, furniture and other items, taking into account ergonomic and occupational health standards. Consult with clients to determine needs, preferences, safety requirements and purpose of space. Develop detailed plans and 3-D models showing arrangement of walls, dividers, displays, lighting and other fixtures. Develop plans, elevations, cross sections and detailed drawings. Certificates, licences, memberships, and courses : Registered Interior Designer. Professional interior designer. Interior decorator (residential) certificate. Computer and technology knowledge: 20/20 design. 3D graphic software. Adobe Photoshop. AutoCAD. MS Excel. MS PowerPoint. MS Word. SketchUp. Area of specialization: Interior design (general). Kitchen. Furniture design. Flooring. Kitchen cabinets and vanities. Security and safety: Driver's validity licence check. Eligible for professional liability insurance. Criminal record check. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Own vehicle. Willing to travel. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Attention to detail. Ability to distinguish between colours.
