Founded in 2007, SOV Construction Inc. has been an integral contributor in projects spanning both British Columbia and Alberta. We are looking for a motivated and dedicated Construction Occupational Safety & Health Officer to join our well-established and fast-growing team.
*Position Summary*
Due to our growing demand, we are looking to hire an ambitious, dedicated and thorough Construction Occupational Safety & Health Officer who is looking to pursue a full-time job with a well-established employer.
*Responsibilities*
* Performs a variety of duties related to the identification of workplace hazards and the interpretation and application of Safety Acts, Regulations, Standards, Policies, Procedures, and Programs for all work areas including:
* *A)* Interpreting safety policies, procedures and regulations and adapting daily procedures to comply with policy;
* *B) *Providing advice and assistance to managers, supervisors and workers on a variety of matters including safety of workers, safety of consumers and public, job procedures, property and equipment;
* *C) *Assisting in the planning of safe work methods, supervising and training;
* *D) *Assisting in the prevention of accidents, injuries, and occupational disease through evaluation/analysis, research, site visits, discussions, direct communication and meetings;
* *E) *Advising managers, supervisors and workers of identified hazards and trends, and providing recommendations;
* *F)* Evaluating and providing input from a safety perspective on construction operations, facilities and equipment;
* *G)* Evaluating accident and incident statistics to determine the most hazardous locations and high-risk activities and recommending corrective action;
* *H) *Developing safety programs and procedures with management;
* Attends committee meetings as the Corporate Safety representative, providing advice, presenting relevant safety information, and assistance to committees. Assists in organizing training and guidance for safety representatives, and complies reports or summaries on topics such as incidents and injuries and occupational hygiene concerns;
* Conducts workplace and site visits, inspections, and audits as established by Corporate Safety;
* Performs a variety of duties related to incident and injury prevention and investigation including:
* *A) *Developing criteria for reporting accidents/incidents, and injuries in a timely manner with input from managers, supervisors and workers, monitoring the same once established;
* *B) *Developing, implementing, and supporting accident/incident reporting procedures and processes with input from managers, supervisors, and workers;
* *C) *Providing assistance to management and Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees (JOHSC) when reviewing accident/incident reports, advising on the priority of issues, applicable regulations and corrective actions;
* *D) *Recommending operation of equipment and/or work to stop immediately when a situation arises that could continue to result in injury of a worker, advising management of recommendation and ensuring that the recommended corrective actions have been taken prior to resumption of that activity;
* *E)* Performing Job safety and Hazard Analyses;
* *F)* Participating in the resolution of disputes arising out of safety issues by providing advice to managers, supervisors, and workers;
* *G) *Providing prevention techniques to managers, supervisors and workers to minimize incidents and injuries;
* *H) *Investigating injuries or incidents such as those that prevent continued operation of equipment and/or work, occupational hygiene, and hazardous materials releases where required;
* *I) *Participating and supporting site management, and coordinating where required for WorkSafe BC inspections and claim-related site visits when required; monitoring incidents and injuries for trends and report out to management, coordinating corrective and preventive actions;
