2024/2025 School Year POSITION: Teachers of Blind and Low Vision - Long Term Occasional <p>FTE: 1.0 <p> LOCATIONS: TBD (support is provided across the UCDSB) <p>NUMBER OF POSITIONS: 1 While this temporary position is expected to be for the whole school year, until June 27, 2025, if may end earlier upon return of incumbent. <p>Internal permanent teachers who are interested in applying, please note that should you be the successful candidate to the position, you would be required to resign your permanent teaching assignment as permanent teachers can't be seconded to long term occasional teaching assignments. SUMMARY: <p>To work with schools to implement and support programming and instructional practices to meet the needs of visually impaired or blind students in inclusionary classroom settings. To build school staff capacity in the delivery of direct services as required by visually impaired or blind students.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: <p> Build staff capacity to deliver student specific approaches for visually impaired and blind students<p> Work directly in classrooms to build staff and student capacity to facilitate success for visually impaired and blind students<p> Work as a member of the regional team to enable system implementation of board initiatives<p> Assessment of students to determine alternative programming<p> Provide in-service to teachers, parents and peers of exceptional students regarding program modifications, use of assistive technology, teaching strategies and equipment needs <p> Work with the Superintendent and System Principals of Teaching and Learning to facilitate system direction<p> Participate as required in assisting school staff in IEP development and reports for IPRC meetingsKNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: <p> Demonstrated knowledge and skill in the use of assistive technology, with emphasis on technology specific to visually impaired and blind students<p> Demonstrated knowledge and skill in working with students with a wide range of exceptionalities<p> Knowledge of Alphabetic and Contracted Braille<p> Demonstrates a learning mindset<p> Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the Ontario curriculum<p> Excellent organization, presentation and time management skills<p> Exemplary interpersonal and team building skills<p> Experience in integrating technology into teaching practice initiatives<p> Familiar with a wide range of assessment tools, communication strategies and safety strategies and requirements<p> Knowledge of instructional strategies and formats to engage students and inform teaching practice (differentiated instruction, universal design for learning, assessment and evaluation)<p> Professional demonstration of Standards of Practice and Ethical Standards of Practice for the Teaching Profession<p> Understands professional development and its impact on student learning<p> Demonstrates knowledge of equitable and inclusive education practices and has an understanding of culturally relevant and responsive pedagogy<p> Effectively communicate and work with school staff, community resources and Psychological Service QUALIFICATIONS: <p> An Ontario Teachers Certificate of Qualification<p> Minimum Part One - Additional Qualification -Teacher of the Blind (additional qualifications in the Area of Deaf and Hard of Hearing education would be considered an asset)<p> Experience in teaching students of low vision is preferred<p> Qualifications in Elementary and/or Secondary<p> Minimum of 5 years of experience in teaching (Special Education preferred)<p> Member o
