Job Description Permanent Full-timeAddictions Counsellor I - Mental Health and AddictionsFarm Road, Deer Lake, NLDuties: To provide advanced community- based clinical social work intervention to children, youth, adults and families affected by addiction issues. These services include, intake, assessment, education, crisis intervention and short-term intervention through individual, family and group work. Also offers counselling to clients presenting with substance related, gambling and concurrent issues, including comprehensive assessment, treatment, and follow-up in the context of a mental health and addictions team setting; provides referral and follow-up services for dependent clients to outside agencies both within and outside the province; accepts referrals from various services, provides necessary liaison pertaining to treatment plan and follow-up. The position may also be responsible for the provision of professional education sessions, clinical consultation, community awareness-raising activities, advocacy and prevention initiatives. This position may provide traveling clinics.Required Qualifications: Knowledge of professional counseling, assessment, and case evaluation techniques in the area of addictions. Candidates must have proven ability in the areas of treatment plan development, problem solving, follow-up, and community development. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential. The required knowledge and experience in individual, group, and family counseling in the area of addictions, with specific experience in the area of prevention, education and counselling, a Masters Degree of Social Work preferred or a Bachelor of Social Work, or a Masters Degree of Clinical Psychology, or a Graduate Degree in a clinical discipline with experience in an addiction setting is required. Candidates must be eligible for registration within their profession. A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is a requirement for this position.If there is no suitable candidate with the required qualifications other levels of experience and training may be considered for this competition.
