Education: No degree, certificate or diploma. Work setting: Transportation. Tasks: Drive as part of a two-person team or convoy. Drive lighter, special purpose trucks. Load and unload goods. Obtain special permits and other documents required to transport cargo on international routes. Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials. Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment. Perform emergency roadside repairs. Perform pre-trip, en route and post-trip inspection and oversee all aspects of vehicle. Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption. Transport and handle dangerous goods. Process bills of lading, cargo manifests or other documents. Plan trips. Ensure safety procedures are followed. Documentation knowledge: Driver logbook. Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip). Area of specialization: Communications system. Security and safety: Driver's validity licence check. Driving record check (abstract). Transportation/travel information: Drive manual transmission vehicle. Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Attention to detail. Weight handling: Up to 13.5 kg (30 lbs).
