The Registered Music Therapist (RMT) in a long-term care facility is responsible for providing music therapy services to residents to enhance their emotional, psychological, cognitive, and social well-being. The RMT works as part of an interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized therapy plans tailored to meet the unique needs of each resident.
*Key Responsibilities*:
* Conduct comprehensive assessments of residents to determine their needs and potential benefits from music therapy.
* Develop individualized music therapy treatment plans in collaboration with residents, families, and the interdisciplinary team.
* Facilitate individual and group music therapy sessions using a variety of techniques and interventions such as singing, playing instruments, music listening, songwriting, and improvisation.
* Adapt sessions to accommodate the diverse physical, emotional, and cognitive abilities of residents.
* Monitor and evaluate the progress of residents towards their therapy goals.
* Maintain accurate and confidential records of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and evaluations.
* Prepare reports and communicate residents? progress to the interdisciplinary team, families, and other stakeholders as required.
* Work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists
* Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff to educate them about the benefits and goals of music therapy.
* Stay current with developments in the field of music therapy and long-term care through continuing education and professional development.
* Adhere to the ethical guidelines and standards of practice as established by the Canadian Association for Music Therapists (CAMT).
* Contribute to the development and enhancement of the music therapy program within the facility.
* Create and implement innovative therapeutic activities and programs that engage residents and promote their well-being.
*Qualifications:*
* Bachelor?s or Master?s degree in Music Therapy from an accredited institution.
* Certified Music Therapist (MTA) designation from the Canadian Association for Music Therapists (CAMT).
* Previous experience working in a long-term care setting is preferred.
* Strong musical skills and proficiency in playing various instruments.
* Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Compassionate, patient, and empathetic nature.
