The District operates 41 elementary and 8 secondary schools, including a range of district and provincial resource programs. The District supports and provides learning to 25,000 Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) students and to more than 6,000 adult learners through our established Burnaby Community & Continuing Education program. The District is seeking an experienced HR Advisor to join its Human Resources Team. This position is temporary (14-18 months). The Human Resources Advisor functions as part of Human Resources and is involved in all aspects of HR. The HR Advisor is the first point of contact for assigned client groups. The HR Advisor acts with independence, discretion, judgment and initiative in providing timely and accurate information and advice on policies, procedures, administrative and operational issues and collective agreements.A Human Resources Advisor in Burnaby:Provides Collective Agreement interpretations with respect to the CUPE and /or BTA (within established guidelines) Assists and advises managers, administrators, and employees with respect to HR processes, compensation practices, employee benefits, training and development, recruitment, and interpretation of District policies within assigned client groups Supports and guides managers/administrators through employee relation practices Provides advice and/or direction on sick leave and attendance management Co-ordinates and administers recruitment, selection, placement, and orientation activities ensuring all applicable District policies, procedures and acceptable practices are followed. Reviews applications, prepares short lists, participates or lead interviews, organizes job bulletins, staffing reports, communication with management, and offering position to successful candidate. Administers and oversees staffing activities relating to employees (i.e., retirement, seniority lists, conversion lists, layoff processes, letters of appointment, salary placements, leaves, orientation, data entry etc.) Responsible for the ongoing administration and management of HR database for new, current and terminated employees. Interfaces with Finance and Payroll Services on matters related to HR, and participate in various committees/projects as assigned Performs other related duties as requested.Qualifications:Degree/Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience Minimum three to five years of relevant work experience in Human Resources in a school district or other unionized environment is required Experience with Office 365 and/or MS Office Experience in recruitment, benefits administration, leave management, collective agreement interpretation, and human resources information systems (HRIS) Exceptional communication and customer service skills Sound ability in judgement and decision making and dealing with sen
