Reporting to the Supervisor Social Recreation, Rehabilitation, Peer Services the Peer Support Worker has lived experience with mental illness and or addictions. The Peer Support Worker provides system navigation, information, education and peer support to those living with mental illness and or addiction.
· One to one and group peer support to those with a mental illness and or addiction, providing outreach service throughout Grey Bruce County
· Support individuals in creating personal goals for recovery and wellness and creating meaningful lives in their community
· Provide information about community services, and consultation about navigating the formal mental health and addiction system
· Collaborate with the Supervisor Social Recreation, Rehabilitation, Peer Services to structure and schedule consumer-focused projects
· Develop educational resource materials, presentations, and workshops
· Facilitate presentations, workshops and groups relating to self-help, leadership development, and coping strategies ie WRAP
· Participate in planning activities aimed at enhancing the local mental health and addiction system
· Advocate for peers? rights and support self-advocacy
· Provide direct response and consultation on-site for program inquiries and requests for information from unscheduled drop-ins and the general public (including walk-ins, phone calls, email)
· Maintain registered files and program records according to program and organizational standards
· Build positive relationship with other peer team colleagues and support cohesiveness and positivity for team building
Hours of work are 15 per week. The normal workday is 8 hours, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break. Travel within the Grey-Bruce catchment area. Some evening work and overtime. Mild to moderate physical activity (occasional lifting objects under 35 lbs.). Works directly with individuals who are living with mental illness and or addictions.

*What you will bring*
Ø Lived experience with mental health and/or addictions is required and a willingness to share their experiential knowledge with others
Ø College diploma in applied health or social services with content relating directly to community development and mental health and addiction services or Peer Support Canada certification
Ø Relevant volunteer or paid experience in health or social services
Ø Experience with self-help groups as a participant, leader or developer
Ø Peer Support training is an asset
Ø Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) Training is an asset
Ø Good communication skills including public presentation and writing skills
Ø Demonstrates skills and abilities within the core competencies of peer support
Ø Good organizational skills and ability to manage several tasks at once
Ø Ability to effectively provide empathetic support,
Ø Awareness of community resources and services within Grey Bruce County
