_This is an excellent opportunity for a first or second year university student enrolled in biological sciences, ecology, environmental science or studies._
The Community Greening and Environment Worker will assist with the delivery of services and programming and help promote the Community Greening and Environment Program initiatives. They will help to increase local knowledge and skills relating to greening and environment issues and help increase awareness about food security through various workshops, programs and educational resources.
*KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:*
· Help promote the Community Garden Program, workshops and events to residents, community, through networking
· Help support local greening and environment initiatives by planning and delivering workshops, events and programs
· Help maintain a wildlife-friendly, sustainable, permaculture garden with space for annual vegetable growing and a miniature forest garden
· Help develop a network of contacts and volunteers to assist with the Good Food Bag, Yard Works and Snow Bank Programs throughout the year; including other future programs

· Help with the purchase and pick-up of garden supplies, materials and produce
· Help with planting, growing and harvesting community pick gardens and planters
· Weed and ensure garden sites are clean and maintained
· Assist in repairs to garden plots as needed; ensure communal compost bins are maintained
· Assist with transportation of water and filling water containers at garden sites
· Assist in other programming areas, community BBQ?s, summer events and other organized community events; assist in other community activities such as festivals and the AGM
· Attend scheduled staff meetings including check-in/follow-up meetings with the Community Greening and Environment Coordinator
· Ensure all relevant health and safety standards are met including the safety of volunteers, and members of the public
· Ensure proper PPE is used at all times when working with equipment
· Prepare and submit monthly progress reports to the Community Greening and Environment Coordinator; maintain accurate time sheets
· Review organization and program policies and procedures, job responsibilities and expectations; sign acknowledgement form upon review
· Adhere to the organizations respect policy and maintain a respectable and friendly work environment
· Other duties as assigned
*QUALIFICATIONS:*
· High School diploma
· Experience with gardening and working in a community setting
· Ability to articulate the finer points of organic agriculture and its differences from traditional agriculture
· Knowledge of greening and environmental issues
· Empathy and experience with supporting and working with older, disabled people, marginalized populations, children, and families
· Self-directed with exceptional organizational and follow-through skills
· Strong computer skills; proficient in Microsoft applications
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to interact with staff and the general public
· Pro-Active leader with the ability to take initiative, work independently, problem solve, and work collaboratively with staff and others
· Understanding and appreciation of inner-city communities
· Ability to work some evenings and weekends
· Knowledge of the Daniel McIntyre / St. Matthews neighbourhoods is an asset
· Valid Driver?s License and clean driver?s abstract; regular/daily access to a vehicle is an asset
