TEACHING VACANCY: POSTING NO. 49 JUNE 20, 2024 <p>SCHOOL: Lakes District Secondary School/Burns Lake Area, BC <p>START DATE: September 1, 2024 <p>SALARY: $60,648.00 - $114,735.00 + current provincial recruitment and retention allowance ASSIGNMENT: .50 (FTE) Continuing Specialist Position CARRIER LANGUAGE AND CULTURE TEACHER (GRADE 8/9) <p>SPECIFIC ASSIGNMENT TO BE DETERMINED BY THE DIRECTOR OF INDIGENOUS EDUCATION AND SCHOOL PRINCIPAL <p>Nechako Lakes School District gratefully acknowledges that we live, work, and play on the unceded, ancestral territories of fourteen First Nations representing the Dakelh, Neduten and Wetsuweten peoples. We are working diligently towards creating equity for our learners through conscious acts of Reconciliation. <p>The School District <p>Nechako Lakes is situated on the traditional unceded territories of fourteen First Nations encompassing the Dakelh, Neduten and Wetsuweten peoples. The school district encompasses five municipalities, the Districts of Fort St James and Vanderhoof and the Villages of Fraser Lake, Burns Lake and Granisle. This large area served by our school district has a population of just under 40,000 residents in the beautiful north central BC. <p>We serve 3,000 students in our standard schools and approximately 900 FTE at EBUS Academy, one of the largest online schools in British Columbia. Our region has affordable housing, welcoming communities and a lower cost of living than many other regions. Come and enjoy over 200 lakes, rivers and streams and an abundance of outdoor recreation at your doorstep.<p>Qualifications <p> Bachelor of Education (Middle or Secondary).<p> A valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in The Ministry of Education and Childcare.<p> Specific training and experience teaching Dakelh, Neduten, Wetsuweten Language and Culture is a necessity.<p> Certified Indigenous Language Teacher, fluent in Dakelh, Neduten, Wetsuweten language and aware of the local differences in dialects.<p> Demonstrates a detailed knowledge and understanding of Dakelh, Neduten, Wetsuweten history, culture, traditions and communities.<p> Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain a positive classroom learning environment that engages students in active learning experiences.<p> Experience in differentiating instruction to create success in learning for each student.<p> Experience in integrating appropriate technologies into instructional practices in order to improve learning outcomes for students.<p> Ability to work as a member of a district team to create curricular competencies and content in Dakelh, Neduten, and Wetsuweten language. <p> Teachers applying for this position must possess the following attributes and commit to: <p> The BC Education Plan and goals of the education system.<p> Supporting every child in learning at high levels.<p> Work closely with parents/guardian and caregivers and the broader community. <p> The Board of Education Strategic Plan.<p> Supporting equity, diversity and inclusion.<p> Ongoing professional learning for the purpose of strengthening student learning.<p> Making evidence-based, collaborative decisions about student learning in a professional learning community environment.<p> Supporting Individual Education Plans (IEP) in a collaborative team environment.<p> The TRC Calls to Action.<p> Integrating Indigenous culture and Ways of Knowing into curriculum and learning activities.The district believes that teacher interest in providing extracurricular activities <p>contributes significantly to our students positive school experience.
