*The opportunity:*
Under general supervision, the Electrician is responsible for performing all work expected of a fully qualified Electrician which includes (but is not exclusive to) performing the following tasks to the standards outlined in the National Occupational Analysis: Plan, assemble, install, alter, repair, inspect, verify, commission, operate and maintain electrical systems, Installation and maintenance of communication systems such as voice, data, audio, video and signaling systems, Commission and decommission electrical systems, Installation and maintenance of heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC) systems, Performs lock?out and tagging procedures, Use and maintain tools and equipment, Organize projects in order to safely and efficiently use material, labour, tools and equipment, Must read and interpret electrical, mechanical, civil and architectural drawings and specifications, Utilize schematics and wiring diagrams to perform tasks such as diagnosing, maintaining and installing systems, Install and maintain service entrance, distribution equipment, electrical panels, transformers, motor control centres, motor starters and VFD?s, Install both above and below ground raceways and cables and Estimate labour and material costs for small projects, PCN?s and maintenance repairs.
*The qualifications and experience we?re looking for:*
* Construction Electrician
* Red Seal Construction Electrician.
* Construction Journeyperson Electrician.
* Must hold a valid Class 5 Manitoba Drivers License.
* High School Diploma (Grade 12).
* Minimum 5 years - extensive position related experience.
* Thorough knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, City of Winnipeg Electrical By-Laws and the City of Winnipeg Electrical Technical Interpretations.
* Good communication skills to negotiate, coordinate and facilitate work with customers, co-workers, jurisdictional authorities and other trades.
* Must be able to communicate and capable of following and executing instructions in English (verbal and written)
* Must be able to work independently or in teams with minimal supervision.
* Must have good organizational and problem-solving skills.
* Must understand and be willing to participate in all safety programs and initiatives designed to ensure the well-being of all staff.
* Ensure the safety of yourself and others in the work environment.
* Knowledge of the different types of personal protective equipment and when to use them.
* Must be self-motivated, dependable, conscientious, and take pride in quality workmanship.
* Experience with 5-24kV Distribution Systems preferred.
* The work environment across the University includes high rise buildings, academic and research facilities with laboratories, libraries, lecture theatres, office spaces, residences for students and recreational space for an active staff and student population of approximately 40,000.
* Industrial spaces also exist for essential campus services including high pressure steam and high voltage electrical distribution, water storm and waste networks, as well as tunnels, confined and restricted access spaces.
