Keewaytinook Okimakanak Board of Education is seeking a qualified First Nation member for the role of Vice Principal to help lead their innovative and highly respected school Keewaytinook Internet High School (KiHS). KiHS delivers quality secondary programming to First Nations students on reserve by blending face-to-face mentoring with cutting edge online asynchronous instruction. The successful candidate will be part of a team that will oversee the school, including the online learning environment and the classrooms in 16 communities.Qualifications:Knowledge of best practices in online educationOCT qualifiedMasters Degree, or equivalentPrincipal Qualifications Part 1 and 2, is considered an assetSeveral Years of experience teaching in the online environment, and experience in administration in an online environment, is considered an assetFamiliarity with Ministry of Education documents (e.g., Growing Success)Strong technology skillsKnowledge of learning management systems, preferable Moodle, is considered an assetAbility to speak in Oji-Cree, Ojibway and/or Cree will be considered an assetResponsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:Establish trusting relationships with staff, students, parents and community school leadership and effectively communicate KOBEs vision, mission and values.Plan and execute the school improvement plan.Plan, organize and facilitate staff team meetings.Collaborate with teaching schedules and organizing replacements for duties as required.Contribute to the recruitment, hiring and retention of staff.Evaluate teachers and support staff.Plan staff professional development, including NTIP.Support the training of new staff members, including the use of our online learning management system and online training program.Collaborate to maintain the teacher and student handbooks updated.Maintain partnerships with communities and promote new partnerships, including credit-for-purchase agreements.Oversee the planning and maintaining the day-to-day operations of the school and ensure that the school policies are consistently applied.Collaborate in the dissemination of information and promotion of the school. Ensure Indigenous worldview is practiced in the curriculum.Monitor online course quality to meet Ministry of Education standards. (e.g., reviewing course outlines, expectation charts, online lessons)Prepare materials for school inspection.Participate in IPRC committee meetings.Plan and implement KiHS classroom special events and activities such as information sessions and parent/teacher conferences.Develop After School programs for students at each KiHS site.Ensure common understanding for KOBE values in terms of positive student behavior and ensure students are respecting the KiHS code of conduct.Work with teacher mentors and Wellness workers to ensure the well-being of students.Collaborate and communicate with teachers, Education Director, KOBE Board members, students and communities in order to support students academic success.Inform the LEA and KOBE of classroom maintenance needs.Travel to communities and meetings regularly, sometimes with short notice.Oversee and submit ministry proposals for funding and reports to both Federal and Provincial Authorities.Oversee the school Budget.Maintain student transcripts and report cards.Salary range: $105,275 - $121,937 based on education and experience.KOBE Will consider secondments from other school boards for a 1 year term.Applicants interested in this position are welcome to submit their resume and cover letter with three recent professional references including your current supervisor and a letter of permission for KO Board of Education to contact these references to: resumes@edu.knet.caAs per policy, applicants should note that COVID-19 Immunization is a condition of employment within KOBE.KOBE gives preference in hiring to members of the KO First Nations, and secondly to indigenous individuals from outside of the KO First Nations.
