1.0 Head of Organizational Unit - ASL and Literacy Lead Learning Services Department Qualifications: Valid Certificate of Registration and Qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers. Specialist of the Deaf/Teaching Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. At least 3 of Primary, Junior, Intermediate, and/or Senior division qualifications required. Reading Part 1 recommended (or willing to obtain). Experience teaching ASL Curriculum as a first language in a K-12 setting. Abilities: Demonstrated proficiency in leadership, collaboration, coaching, communication, organizational skills and evidence-based strategies. Expertise in Ministry documents including, but not limited to: ASL and Language curriculum documents, Growing Success, Creating Pathways to Success, and Learning for All. Extensive knowledge of ASL language instruction, bilingual and biliteracy pedagogy, evidence-based bilingual reading practices. Successful experience in teaching elementary and/or secondary students. Knowledge of neuroscience principles in ASL-English bilingual reading processes. Leadership experience with addressing student learning needs including a focus on the use of inclusive digital tools and resources. Expertise in data-based decision-making and assessment as it relates to ASL language acquisition and learning, English reading and writing fluency and comprehension . Understanding of Inclusive design, equity, diversity, culturally responsive pedagogy, anti-audism, anti racism approaches, concepts, and practices. Ability to support educators in the development of Individual Education Plans, programming, using smart goals in relation to ASL, reading, and writing. Initiation and creativity in developing, modeling and implementing evidence-based bilingual bi literacy programming to enhance student engagement and achievement. Demonstrated experience in data collection and analysis. A strong commitment to collaboration with others Experience in facilitating co-learning, co-planning, co-teaching and other classroom-embedded professional learning. Demonstrated experience with inclusive/assistive technology. Ability to travel to PDSB schools located in: Milton, London, Belleville, and Brantford including the possibility of overnight travel.
