This is an excellent opportunity to support a locally based team in a large, non-profit organization located in Vancouver. *GREATER VANCOUVER COMMUNITY SERVICES SOCIETY *is a multi-service non-profit organization supporting the independence and well-being of the elderly, people with disabilities, and others who require support to retain or regain health and autonomy. Since 1972 the dedicated team at GVCSS has provided compassionate, effective and client-focused care that helps people retain their independence and remain living safely at home.
The Senior Accountant is a Full Time position and is responsible for the preparation of advanced operational accounting work, month-end closing, monthly financial statements and internal reports.
*Key Responsibilities:*
* Complete monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheet account reconciliations.
* Prepare and process general ledger journal entries and perform data entry as required including but not limited to preparation of monthly AR invoices to government funders and recurring and adjusting journal entries.
* Prepare monthly financial statements and related journal entries that comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
* Prepare monthly internal reports to accompany the financial statements. These include but are not limited to service level reports, revenue hours reports and sick time, overtime, and vacation entitlement accrual reports.
* Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual external financial/statistics reports for relevant stakeholders, particularly the funding authorities. These include but are not limited to funder reports and service level reports.
* Investigate any significant monthly budget to actual variances and provide explanations to the Director of Finance.
* Prepare and provide year-end working papers, gather data and supporting documents, and answer inquiries from auditors for annual financial statements audit.
* Assist in the preparation and compilation of data for the annual budget of the organization and program funding templates.
* Makes recommendations for improvements to accounting procedures and processes. Assist in the implementation and improvement of accounting and financial procedures, controls and ERP systems.
* Respond to questions and inquiries from department managers or the Intermediate Accountant about Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable or daily operations procedures.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
*Education and Work Experience Required:*
* University degree in commerce or business administration
* *Completion of a professional accounting designation or in the final stage of obtaining the CPA designation.*
* *5+ years *of progressive full-cycle accounting experience in a medium organization, including a minimum of 2 years in a senior accounting/supervisory role, preferably in the Non-Profit/Charities industry or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
* Working knowledge of ASNPO and experience in the Non-Profit/Charities industry is preferred.
* Knowledge of Procura, Alayacare, Adagio and Comvida is preferred.

* Superior communication skills. Ability to communicate professionally and effectively verbally and in writing with internal and external shareholders.
* Must be able to work independently and in a team, and adaptable to changing work environment.
* Advanced Excel, Outlook and Word working knowledge and skills.
